Claude Monet, born in Paris in 1840, was a founder of French impressionism, and the most consistent at expressing his perceptions rather than following nature, especially with landscapes. In fact the term impressionism came from one of his painting titles, "Impression, Sunrise." His young wife, Camille, died of tuberculosis at the age of 32 (Monet painted her on her death bed).
